The Australian Council for International Development, the peak body for aid charities, has sent an open letter to the Prime Minister calling on her to ensure the budget does not break Australia’s promise to increase Australian aid to 0.5 per cent of our national income by 2015.

Signatories to the letter include the 2012 Australian of the Year, Geoffrey Rush, actors Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness, entertainers The Wiggles, Jimmy Barnes, Missy Higgins, Jamie Durie and Clare Bowditch, former Prime Minister the Rt Hon Malcolm Fraser, ACTU President Ged Kearney, former Masterchef winner Julie Goodwin and prominent business leaders.
