God is Where?! Conference

May 4, 2012

The God is Where?! conference is for all people interested in God’s call to serve humanity in the face of changing needs. The conference will be held from 1-6 July 2012 at the UCA Centre for Ministry, North Parramatta, New South Wales.

Information about the program:

God is…in the public sphere?!
‘Public theology’ seeks to provide resources for people to make connections between their faith and the practical issues facing society. It’s about connecting faith with the big issues of our time in government, in citizenship …. and seeking to explore the relevance of theology to many issues of public concern.

An opportunity for study with a difference is coming up in July this year! ‘Public Theology’ will be the basis of the ‘God is where?!’ conference being held at the Centre for Ministry from 1st to 6th July.

Rev Dr Clive Pearson, Principal of UTC and Associate Professor of the School of Theology at Charles Sturt University, will lead and co-ordinate several speakers. They will explore aspects of ‘Public Theology’ both with students seeking academic credit, and with other participants who share a passion for exploring faith at the cutting edge.

The Conference is being co-hosted by Uniting Church deacons and UTC. For Conference details and registration go to http://www.diakonia.uniting.com.au/index.php/category/conferences/duca-conferences/  Information on attending the conference for academic credit can be obtained from Joanne Stokes (joannes@nsw.uca.org.au).

God is…in creation?!
A team of three people who share a passion for the care of God’s creation will lead a session on the shores of Lake Parramatta on the afternoon of Tuesday 3rd July. This will be part of the ‘God is where?!’ conference being held at the Centre for Ministry from 1st to 6th July.

Rev Dr David Reichardt, Dr George Emeleus, and Dr Miriam Pepper are all experienced in the study and practical application of the care of creation. They share a deep commitment and enthusiasm about this significant area of concern for today’s world. Participation in the session may be as part of attendance at the full conference program or it may be experienced as part of the Tuesday only program, with a ‘day registration’. For registration details see http://www.diakonia.uniting.com.au/index.php/category/conferences/duca-conferences/

The conference is being co-hosted by Uniting Church deacons and the United Theological College.

God is…in the suburbs?!
… and in the city?! Rev John Dacey is a deacon who leads the team at Mt Druitt Community Ministry. Kevin Crouse runs the Mars Hill Café at Parramatta where faith connects with café culture. Both John and Kevin will talk about their ministry at their places of work – Bidwill and Parramatta – on the afternoon of Thursday 5th July.

John and his team work alongside residents in one of the most disadvantaged suburbs in Australia. Kevin and his team find faith connections with city workers and residents. Sharing conversation with John and Kevin is open to anyone keen to learn more about God working in the suburbs and the city as  part of the ‘God is where?!’ conference being held at the Centre for Ministry from 1st to 6th July.

This can be as part of attendance at the full conference program or it can be shared as part of the Tuesday only program, with a ‘day registration’. For registration details see http://www.diakonia.uniting.com.au/index.php/category/conferences/duca-conferences/
