Passing of Rev Dr Gumana AO

With much sadness the National President, Moderator and Chairs of the Northern Regional Council of Congress and the Pilgrim Presbytery of Northern Australia, Presbyteries of the Northern Synod, share the news of the passing of Rev Dr Gumana at GänGan Homeland on 19^th November 2016. Rev Dr Gumana made unprecedented contributions as a senior Yirritja elder to Indigenous arts, the homelands centre movement, contextual theologies and the recognition of First Peoples sovereignty and law.

Rev Dr Gumana was a humble and highly respected Yolŋu and Uniting Church leader and elder who is remembered with great fondness. His willingness to share his wisdom and important insights on life, together with his encouragement of others to follow in the way of Jesus while remaining grounded in his culture has been a model for many.
